The bursary can only be applied to South Africans who come from a family with an income of R350 000 or less. The application window for NSFAS is opened and interested students are encouraged to apply early before the deadline date.
 Nsfas Funding Application Date for 2025
The Nsfas Funds are now open to all new or fresh South African students. The online application period for Nsfas will be open from September 20th, 2024, and the application deadline is December 15th, 2024. Thus, applicants are requested to submit their applications as soon as feasible.
Who Is Eligible for NSFAS Funding in 2025?
If you are a citizen of South Africa, intend to enroll in school in 2025, or if you are enrolled in a public university or TVET college and you match the following criteria, you are eligible for an NSFAS bursary:
- Â All South African citizens
- Â All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Â Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- Â A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Â SASSA recipients automatically qualify for funding and need not submit any proof of income.
Who cannot apply for NSFAS 2025
- A student who has achieved a certificate qualification and wants to study for a second certificate qualification.
- Students studying at a private institution.
- Students who have received 100% study funding from non-NSFAS sources.
- Students enrolled for qualifications that are not approved by DHET and/or SAQA accredited.
- A student who already has obtained an undergraduate qualification and wants to study for a second undergraduate qualification. Nsfas Requirements Documents

Nsfas Application 2025 Documents
All students who are applying for the NSFAS must make sure they provide the following documents:
- South African ID document (this can include any of the following):
- copy of green ID document
- temporary ID from the DHA
- copy of both sides of the Smart ID card
- unbridged birth certificate
- Non-SASSA grant applicants: Parents, guardians, or spouse ID documents (copies only)
- Own, parents, guardians, or spouse proof of income, if a non-SASSA applicant (this can include any of the following):
- latest payslip if employed (not older than 3 months)
- UIF letter
- employment letter
- retrenchment letter, if a non-SASSA applicant
- Students with disabilities: complete and sign the Disability Annexure A Form
- Students who are recognized as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development: complete and sign the Vulnerable Child
- Declaration Form

How To Apply For The Nsfas Bursary 2025
Follow the process below to apply online for the NSFAS bursaries for 2025:
