If you are a student of the University of Johannesburg looking for financial support to pursue your education, Nsfas is there to help you. NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
The UJ has currently opened its applications to everyone who wishes to enroll with them. By going to their online application portal, you can apply. To help students of UJ have peace of mind to study without financial issues, the university has made it possible for its South African students to apply for the NSFAS.
Nsfas Application Opening Date For 2025
The online application date for Nsfas 2025 begins on September 20th, 2024, and closes on December 15, 2024. Therefore, applicants are requested to submit their applications by the deadline.

Who Is Eligible For University of Johannesburg(UJ) Nsfas 2025
If you are a citizen of South Africa, intend to enroll in school in 2025, or if you are enrolled in a public university or TVET college and you match the following criteria, you are eligible for an NSFAS bursary:
- Â All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Â Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- Â A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Â SASSA recipients automatically qualify for funding and need not submit any proof of income.
University of Johannesburg(UJ) Nsfas Application Criteria for 2025
If you have in mind to apply for the 2025 Nsfas at UJ, you must have the following documents:
- Cellphone number and email address
- Â Copy of your ID or birth certificate
-  Copies of your parents, guardian or spouse’s ID
-  proof of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable,)
-  Your parents, guardian, or spouse’s evidence of income
- Â Those who are SASSA grant recipients, are not to have any proof of income.
- Â All Applicants with a disability are to submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
- Â All recognized applicants as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed
- Â Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.
Other documents that may be required, if applicable
- Â Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Â Divorce Decree
- Â Proof of legal guardianship
- Â Marriage certificate
- Â other documents may be required for appeal purposes,….eg retrenchment letter
