How Many Years Does the Nsfas Fund Cover

NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) offers financial support to South African students pursuing higher education, but the duration of coverage is a common question. Typically, NSFAS funding covers a student for the entire duration of their qualification, provided they meet academic performance requirements and remain eligible based on financial need.

Students who have just been enrolled or first-time applicants of Nsfas(who may be in school already but have not applied for Nsfas before) are permitted to apply for the Nsfas in the year 2024. Based on the funds available each year, NSFAS will only provide support to you if you meet the criteria for eligibility under the means test for a maximum of about five years.

You will be responsible for paying for yourself until you graduate if you regularly change your programme of study and it takes you longer than five years to finish your certificate.
