Nsfas Application For Second Semester 2025
If you are struggling to pay for your tuition fees, accommodation, books, and living expenses for the second semester, NSFAS is here to help. NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
The Scheme operates under the auspices of DHET which is one of the South African government’s departments. Department of Higher Education and Training is responsible for supervising South African universities, colleges, and other post-secondary institutions. The second-semester application for the year 2025 is currently open for applicants who did not make it to the main or first semester. It is advised to apply as early as possible before the closing date.
Nsfas Application for Second Semester 2025
The NSFAS application doors will be open to all applicants beginning in September 2024 and closing in January 2025. Therefore, applicants are requested to submit their applications by the deadline.
What Does The NSFAS Bursaries Cover for Second Semester
The 2025 Nsfas funds can be used to pay for the following:
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
- Accommodation
- As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500Â per annum
- Living allowance R15, of 000Â per annum
- Book allowances R5200 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET STUDENTS
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350Â per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
 Nsfas Second Semester Application Requirement 2025
The following supporting documents are required from all applicants to be taken into consideration, so make sure you have them before submitting your application. Applications lacking these materials won’t be accepted:
- Â Cellphone number and email address
- Â Copy of your ID or birth certificate
-  Copies of your parents, guardian or spouse’s ID
-  proof of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable,)
-  Your parents, guardian, or spouse’s evidence of income
- Â Those who are SASSA grant recipients, are not to have any proof of income.
- Â All Applicants with a disability are to submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
- Â All recognized applicants as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed
- Â Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

How To Apply For Nsfas Second Semester 2025
Follow the process below to apply online for the NSFAS:
- Visit the NSFAS Application 2025 website: www.nsfas.org.za/apply-2025.
- Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab.
- Update your personal information.
- Answer the questions you see on the screen.
- Upload all the required supporting documents.
- Finally, click on submit
