Are you having trouble affording your university or college education in South Africa? If so, you can apply for financial aid through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, which is presently accepting applications from all students. The NSFAS 2025 application will be available beginning on september 20th 2024, and will end on December 15th, 2024. All applicants are reminded to submit their applications before the deadline.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme is a program run by the South African government that offers financial aid to undergraduate students to assist in covering the cost of their higher education after they graduate from high school.

The Scheme operates under the auspices of DHET, one of the South African government’s departments. Department of Higher Education and Training supervises South African universities, colleges, and other post-secondary institutions.

The online application date for Nsfas 2025 begins on september 20th 2024, and closes on December 15th, 2024. Therefore, applicants are requested to submit their applications by the deadline.

Who Qualifies For Nsfas Online Application For 2025

If you are a citizen of South Africa, intend to enrol in school in 2025, or are enrolled in a public university or TVET college and you match the following criteria, you are eligible for an NSFAS bursary:

• SASSA grant recipients
• Applicant whose annual gross household income combined is not greater than R350 000
• individuals with disabilities whose annual gross family income is not greater than R600,000.
• A student must be registered or intending to register on a PLP, NC(V) or Report 191 programme at any of the fifty (50) public TVET Colleges in South Africa;
• Must need financial assistance (NSFAS will determine whether or not a student meets the financial eligibility criteria);
• Returning students must present a prove of academic performance (academically deserving) in line with the College’s progression policy or the progression prescriptions of the Bursary Rules and Guidelines (whichever is higher);

What Does Nsfas  Application Cover For 2025

The 2025 Nsfas funds can be used to pay for the following:

NSFAS will cover your costs for:

• Registration
• Tuition Fees and learning materials
• Living allowance
• Personal care allowance
• Transport or Accommodation

Living/Personal and Transport allowances are not part of the loan scheme funding.

UNISA students will receive funding for:

• Tuition
• Books (subject to the number of modules registered)
• Personal care allowance

Eligible students with a disability will receive funding for:

• Assistive Devices
• Meals
• Tuition
• Transport
• Tuition
• Human Support
• Accommodation

Nsfas Online Application Requirements For 2025

All candidates must supply the following supporting documents to be considered for the funds, so make sure you have them available before submitting your application. Applications won’t be accepted without these materials:

• South African ID document (this can include any of the following):
• copy of green ID document
• temporary ID from the DHA
• copy of both sides of the Smart ID card
• unbridged birth certificate
• Non-SASSA grant applicants: Parents, guardians, or spouse ID documents (copies only)
• Own, parents, guardians, or spouse proof of income, if a non-SASSA applicant (this can include any of the following):
• latest payslip if employed (not older than 3 months)
• UIF letter
• employment letter
• retrenchment letter, if a non-SASSA applicant
• Students with disabilities: complete and sign the Disability Annexure A Form
• Students who are recognized as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development: complete and sign the Vulnerable Child
• Declaration Form

Other documents that may be required, if applicable

• Retrenchment letter
• Death certificate/s
• Divorce Decree
• Proof of legal guardianship
• Marriage certificate
